Bio
Andrew Scott Waugh is a fourth year doctoral candidate in political science at the University of California, San Diego. He arrived at UCSD via Duke University via Tallwood High School. He hails from Virginia Beach, VA, a city noted for its military community, massive suburban sprawl, and ingenious conversion of landfills into city parks. In addition to being an aspiring political scientist, Andrew is a recovering debater and former president of Duke Debate.
Professionally, Andrew is a member of the American Political Science Assocation, Midwestern Political Science Association, and the Southwestern Political Science Association. He is currently working with Keith Poole and James Fowler on separate, but hopefully related, projects. He studies roll-call and cosponsorship behavior in the United States Congress, partisan polarization, and national party organizations. His dissertation research examines the ability of national and state party organizations to impact the campaign and legislative agendas of congressmen.
